iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: Running Playlist 2011-23-11
Posted by Sam in iTunes top 10, Running Playlist on November 23, 2011
This week, there was no “Glee” on TV, so the iTunes top 10 is more “natural”. There were no real new songs to this list, but Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” made it into the top 10. I actually like this song and have it on my running playlists occasionally.
And now, here’s the list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter, or +1 me if you’r on google+.

Philadelphia Marathon Update: Running Playlist Saved the Day
Posted by Sam in Marathon, playlist, Running Playlist on November 22, 2011
Last week, I mentioned that I’m running a marathon for the first time here in philadelphia and shared my music strategy and running playlist.
Well, up to mile 9 or so, things were going well, and I was following the plan, but at mile 9, I started to not feel well, most likely because I had too many energy gels too early. I wasn’t really in the mood to listen to music, so I listened to some podcasts and focused on making it through the pain.
By mile 22 I was really feeling down, but then, I decided to finish the run properly and turned on my running playlist!
I could not believe that I was able to keep a pace of 12 min/mile after running 22 miles already, but I did. The music gave me the strength i needed to finish the run fast. I kept that pace for around 4 miles or so, getting to 6:28 min/mile for a brief period of time as my fastest pace!
I can easily say, that without my running playlist, I would have never found the power to make it through. I’m still recovering from the run, and my legs still hurt, but I’m glad I did it. I can’t wait to do another one of these!
I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter, or +1 me if you’r on google+.

I thought this week wouldn’t have too many changes in the iTunes top 10, but I forgot that glee is back on and is no longer doing the “musical” so it’s time for some “real” songs from them on running playlist.
Today’s iTunes top 10 is more diverse than I thought it would be. We have Glee of course, some new songs from Drake, and even a song from the new Twilight soundtrack, so definitely something for all you teens out there…
As usual, I’ve bolded the songs that would make a good addition to a bpm based running playlist.
And now, here’s the list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter, or +1 me if you’r on google+.

The Philadelphia Marathon! My Running Playlist Music Strategy
Posted by Sam in Marathon, Playlist of the week, Running Playlist on November 11, 2011
For those of you who don’t know, I’ll be running the Philadelphia marathon next week.
It’s going to be my first (hopefully of many) marathon and I thought I’d share my running playlist and music strategy for this run with you.
Starting out, I figure that there will be too much noise and commotion to hear anything anyway, so for the first 10-15 minutes, I’m going silent.
Then, as we run through the old city of Philadelphia, past Independence Hall and other historical structures, I thought it would be appropriate to listen to the last episode of the American Revolution class from Yale I’ve been listening to on long runs.
That should take me an hour or so into the race, and then I’d probably want to get some light humor and motivation, so I’ll listen to a podcast from ultrarunnerpodcast.com
I might listen to another podcast from there, and by then I’ll be about 2.5-3 hours into the run, and will need some music to boost my spirits and distract me from how much more I have to go, so I’ll turn to my favorite running playlist (I may also throw in some of the new Taylor Swift stuff I mentioned yesterday, but I’m not sure how good she is to run with).
I know this running playlist will run out before the run is over, so I’ll loop it as needed. I may also take a break and just run with silence at some point so that my brain can rest.
If my brain is still working at the end, I’ll play some motivational song to run to at the finish, like “eye of the tiger” or the “rocky theme” (the run ends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, also know as the “rocky steps” since they filmed that scene there)
So here’s my list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter.
I’d also appreciate it if you “like” this post on Facebook or “+1″ it if you are on Google+.

Post CMA Awards iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: Running Playlist 2011-10-11
Posted by Sam in iTunes top 10, Music, Running Playlist on November 10, 2011
For those of you following running playlist for a while, you should know by now why I’m super happy!
Last night, I happened to stumble onto the CMA awards. I say “stumble” because I usually don’t like award shows (e.g. the gimmicky MTV awards show) and I prefer not to hear “I’d like to thank my producer” speeches a million times. But there was nothing on TV last night (I stopped watching x-factor) so I ended up on the CMA awards.
I was absolutely blown away by the show! They really kept the speeches to a minimum and the quality of the music was incredible!
I guess after watching all those “Idol” type shows, my expectations were really low for music on TV, but watching the CMAs opened my eyes and ears to what it should be like. Not surprising, the only performances that weren’t 100% perfect were Carrie underwood and Scotty McCreery, both from American Idol.
I really loved the Taylor Swift performance, The Band Perry, and the Sugarland Duet! Highly recommend watching this again if you have the time.
So today, obviously, I checked the iTunes top 10 and who was there? My favorite, Taylor Swift! with 3 new songs! (“Ours” is my favorite so far…:)
Anyway, here’s the list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter, or +1 me if you’r on google+.

Boo! A Halloween Running Playlist Number 2: 10-28-2011
Posted by Sam in 150 BPM, Holiday, Playlist of the week, Running Playlist, Uncategorized on October 28, 2011
Can you believe this?! the running playlist site has been around for over a year now! This is the second Halloween running playlist I’m posting. Very exciting!!
This year, I thought I’d change things up a bit and instead of reposting oldies but goodies like “the monster mash” and other “traditional” Halloween songs, I’d do something different.
This running playlist is about the characters of Halloween: Monsters, Witches and others who didn’t get their fair share in last years Halloween running playlist.
This running playlist is almost 42 minutes long and is pretty fast, averaging out at 151 bpm. Watch out for the 198(!) bpm song I hid somewhere in the playlist, it will definitely give you a good scare and get your heart pumping.
And now, here’s the list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter.
I’d also appreciate it if you “like” this post on Facebook or “+1″ it if you are on Google+.

iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: Running Playlist 2011-25-10
Posted by Sam in iTunes top 10, Running Playlist on October 25, 2011
It’s time for another iTunes top 10 review on running playlist.
This week, we have 2 “new” songs on the list. First, a new Christmas Song from Justin Bieber. If you expect anything new and exciting out of that one, you may be disappointed, it’s just the same old song, just being sung by Bieber and Usher.
The second entry is You Make Me Feel…, by Cobra Starship, it’s not really a new song, but it’s new to my list.
As usual, I’ve bolded the songs that would make a good addition to a bpm based running playlist.
And now, here’s the list, I would love to hear your feedback on this, so please comment, or contact me on facebook or twitter, or +1 me if you’r on google+.
