Boo! A Halloween running playlist: 10-29-2010

running playlist

This weekend is Halloween in the USA, a holiday where kids are encouraged to take candies from strangers and adults dress up in skimpy clothing…

But seriously though, it’s a fun holiday and if you eat too much candy, you’ll need to run it off, so I put together a running playlist inspired by Halloween songs.
This spooky running playlist isn’t a very long one, so you’ll have time to get back to your trick or treat adventures in no time.

The running playlist is 38:14 minutes long with an average BPM of 144, so it’s pretty fast. I also tried to avoid the usual suspects for this kind of a playlist like the “Adams Family” and other overused songs for this holiday although I couldn’t avoid some.

And now, here’s the list. Please retweet/like this post if you enjoyed it.

10K running playlist of the week: 10-28-2010

It’s Thursday and once again it’s time for your 10k running playlist of the week.

This week, I have to say that I’m not in a very happy mood. As some of you might know, I’m training for the Philadelphia Marathon, and recently, I pushed myself too far while training and hurt my knee… I’m pretty much off running for now, and I’m stretching and massaging my legs like crazy with hope that I can at least run in a few weeks. I’ve given up on a hitting a good time.

So this week, I decided to create a more cautious running playlist.

Starting with 3 slow songs, which will act as a good warm up, the list builds up slowly and hits 180+ BPM at the end. Personally, I will pass on the end part of the list and cap my list at 150BPM so I don’t hurt myself again.

The average BPM of this list is 132BPM and it is 1:22 hours long so if you are using it for a 10k, you will have to run at most at 13:11 min/mile.

And now – the running playlist:

Running Playlist: Amazon top 10 BPM analysis: 10-27-2010

running playlist

Yesterday, I posted that I was in running playlist heaven since Taylor Swift had 5 songs in the top 10 list on iTunes. Surprisingly, the Amazon.com customers didn’t see the release of her new album as such a momentous occasion and are still sticking with the same top 10 list as they have kept more or less the same for over 5 weeks.

This is actually an interesting lesson in marketing since it looks like iTunes customers are probably younger and more diverse in their musical taste and Amazon customers are less influenced by albums targeted at a younger market and buy more or less what keeps playing in the top 20 lists on the radio.

Anyway…

I’ve bolded the songs that would make good additions to a running playlist.

And now, here’s the list:

Running Playlist: iTunes top 10 BPM analysis: 10-26-2010

Today I’m in running playlist heaven!

As some of you might know, I’m a big fan of Taylor Swift’s music (no, I’m not a 12 year old girl…)

This week in the iTunes top 10 we have not one, not two but FIVE(!!!) songs by Taylor Swift! OMG!

These songs are from her new album Speak Now, and have a slightly more “grown up” theme than her previous work, even though they are still written from a teenager/very young woman’s point of view (which Taylor Swift is…)

Ok, enough gushing! Two songs from her list in the top 10 are running playlist worthy, The Story Of Us and Better Than Revenge.

I’ve bolded the songs that would be a good addition to a running playlist.

And now, here’s the list:

Shake your groove thing: 70′s running playlist of the week: 10-22-2010

What do bell bottoms, mood rings, disco and Saturday Night Fever have in common? That’s right, they are all cultural icons of the 70′s.

When I think about the 70′s I always remember the immortal phrase spoken by one of the great thinkers of the time: “Shake your groove thing, shake your groove thing, yeah, yeah”. Ahh, that brings back memories…

The 70s music definitely had its charm, and while Disco did die with that decade, it will always live on in our hearts and iPods and now, it can also be part of our running playlist.

Per request of one of my readers, AnaIsabel, I put together a list of some great songs from the 70′s that would be great for a running playlist.

The list below is 1:15 hours, and has an average BPM of 131, so it will allow you to run at a good tempo.

And now, here’s the list. Please retweet/like this post if you enjoyed it.

5K running playlist of the week: 10-21-2010

This week’s 5K list is a split running playlist. What this means is that for the first half of the run, you’ll be running relatively slowly with slower music at an average bpm of 112 BPM. Once the first half is done, the BPM picks up and your run gets much faster. The music goes from 112 average BPM to 157 average BPM, with a high at 172 BPM.

This list is also very fast. It’s only 35 minutes long and if you want your run to last for the duration of the list, you’ll have to run at a pace of 11:19 min/mile, which is not too slow at all.

You can also break this list apart and use the slow songs for a warm up if you’d like at the beginning of your own running playlist.

Running Playlist: Amazon top 10 BPM analysis: 10-20-2010

running playlist

Our friends at Amazon are still very stable and consistent in their music preferences.
If you built a running playlist out of these songs last week, or the week before that, you can still keep it as is, since the top 10 list on amazon only added one new song (Bottoms Up) which is a slow song at 73 BPM so not really good for running to.

I’ve bolded the songs that would make good additions to a running playlist. And now, here’s the list:
